Decapitated is a technical death metal band from Poland, formed in 1996. The band was founded by guitarist Wacław Kiełtyka ("Vogg"), drummer Witold Kiełtyka ("Vitek") and vocalist Wojciech Wąsowicz ("Sauron"), whose average age was fourteen. One year later, thirteen year old bassist Marcin Rygiel ("Martin") joined the band.

After releasing two demos, the band signed with Wicked World (subsidiary of Earache Records) and released their debut album, Winds of Creation, in 2000. Decapitated soon became Poland's, and even Europe's, finest exponents of ultra-technical death metal. In 2002 and 2004 the band released the albums Nihility and The Negation, respectively. In 2005, "Sauron" was replaced by Adrian Kowanek ("Covan"), and subsequently the fourth album, Organic Hallucinosis, was released in 2006.

In late 2007, Decapitated's drummer Vitek and vocalist Covan were injured in a road accident. Vitek died on November 2, 2007, at the age of 23. The rest of the band is currently on hiatus.
