Jet is an Australian rock band formed in 2001. The members are brothers Nic Cester and Chris Cester, Cameron Muncey and Mark Wilson. Their initial interest in music came from a love of classic rock from the 60s and 70s including The Who, The Rolling Stones and AC/DC, in fact they derived their name from the Wings song of the same name.
Their first release was in 2002 with the Dirty Sweet EP which was very successful and, with their profile growing as a result of being championed by the NME music magazine, the band were offered a recording deal with Elektra Records.
Their debut was Get Born released in 2003 and contained the hit singles "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" and "Rollover DJ". A tour supporting The Rolling Stones followed later that year and then, in 2004, they toured with fellow Australians The Vines for an "Aussie Invasion" tour of the US. Comments about their music being derivative (of, among others, Pink Floyd Iggy Pop and The Beatles) were shrugged off as the band was awarded six ARIA awards in 2004 and the album went platinum.
Shine On (2006) failed to achieve the same measure of success as the debut with only one of the five singles "Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is" charting in the US Billboard charts.
