Natalie Imbruglia is an Australian singer-songwriter, model and actress born in 1975.
She rose to prominence aged 16 as a result of her role in the Australian soap Neighbours. She moved to London when she left the soap but within a year she had no work permit and mounting debts. She turned to singing and songwriting to pay the bills. The demo of the Ednaswap cover "Torn" made an impact on RCA Records who signed her. The release of the single was phenomenally successful, selling over a million copies in the UK alone. The double platinum selling album Left of Middle basked in the success of its debut single when it was released soon after, in 1997.
White Lilies Island was the follow-up release in 2001. It failed to reach the giddy heights of its predecessor but managed a very respectable platinum classification and is considered by the critics to be the better album.
Counting Down The Days wasn't released until 2005, after a disagreement with her record company resulted in a label change. The debut single from the album "Shiver" was her most successful since "Torn" and though the album did not perform as well as her debut, she undertook a small sell-out tour to a core of devoted fans.
Her most recent release is a best of, Glorious: The Singles 1997-2007 (2007), which showcases five new songs.
