Robert Plant is best-known as the flamboyant frontman of classic hard rock group Led Zeppelin. His distinctive and agile voice, flashy clothes and long hair, and charismatic on-stage presence combined to made him the quintessential rock star singer. Led Zeppelin were one of the most popular rock bands of all-time, selling tens-of-millions of each of their albums through the 70s, and selling out massive stadium tours across the world. They were also one of the most influential rock bands ever, their loud, bluesy brand of rock being an obvious forebear to heavy metal and associated styles. Led Zeppelin broke up in 1980 following the death of drummer John Bonham, after which Plant pursued a solo career, and often collaborated with Led Zep guitarist Jimmy Page.
First solo albums Pictures At Eleven (1982) and The Principle of Moments (1983) were Top Ten hits. Alongside Page and Jeff Beck as The Honeydrippers, Plant had a No.3 hit single with "Sea of Love" in 1984. Now and Zen (1988) was a Top Ten hit on both sides of the Atlantic, as was his second Page & Plant album Walking Into Clarksdale (1998). With a backing band known as Strange Sensation, Plant continues to release albums in the new millenium, mostly attracting lukewarm reactions from press and public.
In 2007, the three remaining members of Led Zeppelin announced they would reunite for a one-off concert in London to commemorate their former Atlantic Records boss Ahmet Ertegün, who died in 2006.
Currently, Robert Plant has been touring with famous Blue-grass artist Allison Krauss to promote their duet album Raising Sand.
