Biography

Edit

Sheryl Crow is a Grammy Award-winning American singer-songwriter best known for the hits "All I Wanna Do", "If It Makes You Happy", and "Everyday is a Winding Road". She also performed the theme to the 18th James Bond film, Tomorrow Never Dies (1997).

Born in 1962 to a musical family, she graduated from University with a degree in Education and became a music teacher. An introduction to local musician and producer Jay Oliver resulted in her working with him to carve out a lucrative side project producing advertising jingles, and by 1987 her career path led her to touring as a backing musician and singer with Michael Jackson.

Her first opportunity to record an album never came to fruition, and eventually her then-boyfriend Kevin Gilbert invited her to join a weekly jam session with his friends. The sessions resulted in her first album Tuesday Night Music Club (1993), which spawned the successful single "All I Wanna Do" and was finally certified seven-times platinum. Her follow-up, Sheryl Crow (1996), was a darker and more political outing. It dealt with controversial themes such as nuclear war and weapon sales and underlined her ongoing concern regarding various political issues.

After contributing the theme song for the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies, she released The Globe Sessions (1998) which resulted from a period of depression in her life. C'mon, C'mon (2002) was her next album and Wildflower followed it in 2005. Unfortunately Wildflower failed to achieve the same level of critical acclaim as her previous albums, though it still achieved an extremely respectable platinum certification.

In 2006 Crow was diagnosed with breast cancer, but once she had recovered, a new album, Detours (2008), hit the stores.
