Juan Luis Morera Luna (Wisin) and Llandel Veguilla Malavé (Yandel) are the Puerto Rican duo who have helped popularise the reggaeton sound outside its Caribbean homeland.
The pair signed to the Fresh Production label for their first release, a track on La Misión Vol.1 compilation. The success of the record provided them with a good platform for their debut album, Los Reyes del Nuevo Milenio (The Kings of the New Millennium), which became the first of their gold-selling albums.
The pair took a break in 2004 to release solo albums: Wisin brought out El Sobriviente (The Survivor), and Yandel released Quien Contra Mi (Who's Against Me?). Both did moderately well and are now considered to be collector’s items.
They formed their own record label WY Records for the compilation album Wisin y Yandel Presentan: Los Vaqueros, a remixed version of which, called Wild Wild Mixes, was released in 2007. In addition to work with other Caribbean artists Don Omar and Daddy Yankee, they have also worked with international stars R. Kelly, Lenny Kravitz and Gloria Estefan.
