Maurice Jarre was the French born composer, best known for his film scores for Lawrence of Arabia, Dead Poets Society and Ghost.

He studied music composition at the Conservatoire in Paris, before moving on to the post of Musical Director at the French National Theatre. His career as a film score writer commenced in 1951, although he had his international breakthrough when he was asked to write the music for Lawrence of Arabia. The success of the film, in which music plays a strong part, earned Jarre an Oscar, and brought him international attention. He has since supplied the soundtracks for over 50 films. His list of credits also include Witness, Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome and Dr Zhivago. Dr Zhivago earned him another Oscar, and produced a gold-selling soundtrack album.
