by Ed @ SoundUnwound 30 March 2009During his lifetime Maurice Jarre wrote some of the most memorable soundtracks for some of the most memorable movies of the 20th century, from the dystopia of Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome to the emotion of Ghost. In all he scored over 150 movies, and in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the genre he was awarded his first Oscar for the score to Lawrence of Arabia, his second for Doctor Zhivago and his third for A Passage to India. "One could say my life itself has been one long soundtrack" he once said. "Music was my life, music brought me to life, and music is how I will be remembered long after I leave this life. When I die there will be a final waltz playing in my head and that only I can hear.” Maurice died on March 29 2009, aged 84.
