Thomas Newman is an American film score composer born in 1955. He is part of a musical dynasty in Hollywood which includes his father, Alfred Newman, and his bother David Newman.
His film scoring career began after he completed his education at Yale University. In 1984 he composed the music for Reckless and by 1994 he had won two Academy Awards for his scores for Little Women and The Shawshank Redemption. Other notable films include Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, Erin Brockovich and Finding Nemo.
He has also written music for television and his credits include the theme music for Six Feet Under and Boston Public.
