1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours is a collection of early recordings by American punk rock band Green Day, released in 1991. Although it is often referred to as the group's first album, this is not factually correct. Their first album was 39/Smooth, whereas 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours includes that album in its entirety as well as two complete EPs and a track from a previous compilation album.

The album included one cover, "Knowledge", which was originally by influential California punk band Operation Ivy.

The very first glimpse of Green Day....it rocks. This is solid punk...loud, fast, and awesome. Anyone who remotely likes punk should dig this. The price is great and well worth it, because it comes with all of that cool extra stuff. If you enjoyed this album, then try Kerplunk also, because it has the same great punk sound. I like Insomniac a lot, but after hearing this I had to consider, because 1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours rocks too.

You don't expect complicated song progressions or much chord and key changes in punk, but at times it feels like this whole album could almost be mixed into one veeeerrry looooooong song. I guess it's not really that bad, it's just a shame there's not more variety, (particularly from the drummer that only seems to know one rhythm).
