4 stars This release is for the Byrds
Saturnine have managed to resurrect that familiar Rickenbacker strum and drum made popular by the Byrds. Since I always loved McGuinn and company, I really enjoy this release. They've managed to pillage the past in a respectful fashion and their original material is good enough to stand on its own.

3 stars Not a Great "Pillar."
Saturnine's full length debut album, "Wreck at Pillar Point," is one of the greatest gloom rock albums ever made. Unfortunately, they've been moving farther away from its sound and style ever since then. "American Kestrel" completes their transformation from mopes to bland folkies. This wouldn't be a bad thing if the songwriting were up to their earlier standards. Alas, only "The Wind is Blowing Like an Outlaw" is up to their earlier work. The rest of the songs are pleasent enough but ultimately…
